Profile: As a child, Deep’s first music teacher was his father, who was a student of famous pianist Mr. Surojit Roy, who worked as an arranger of legend Salil Chawdhury. As deep’s schooling was from Don Bosco School, Bandel, He was exposed to a lot of western classical music. Bach, Liszt, Beethoven and Chopin became his favorites. Yet, his interest in Indian Classical Music developed as he heard his mother singing some beautiful combination of Ragas.
Later, he took advanced lessons from Pianist and Cine Musician Mr. Sanjib Nundy, covering international music courses on Western Classical, Jazz, Rock and Pop music. This helped him appear for Music Exams of Royal College of Music, London, held by ABRSM (Associated Board for Royal Schools of Music). Deep started composing during his high school days and it was his teachers and friends at school who encouraged him to move forward with music, his compositions won some awards for his school.
After completing his 10+2 with Science, besides Computer Science & Engineering (B.Tech stream), he started studying Orchestration, Arrangement and Sound Designing besides his engineering syllabus. As he learned the techniques of fusing Bach and Beethoven with Hindustani and Carnatic ragas, his compositions took fuller structure. As he did all the composing, orchestration and lyrical work himself and also sang the songs, He was nicknamed “The Musical Package” by his peers.
